DescriptionDemoSupport
Webmail GroupWare
Webmail (Java, C++, PHP, CGI, ActiveX, PGP)
Here's the description of the system's components and features:
Workgroups
Workgroups are designated to organize group work in the system. Workgroups are used for group address books, calendar timetables and other information access control. Workgroup can be created only by WebMail admin, but any user, having workgroup manager rights, can manage it (adding or removing users). A pre-defined group Everyone exists, integrating all the system's users.
Mail client
Mail client offers all the standard possibilities:
  • receiving and sending messages
  • a possibility to use text formatting in sending mail. Built-in editor allows to use text formatting opportunities without knowing HTML language
  • receiving mail from external POP3 servers
  • periodical (interval can be specified) new mail check
  • hierarchical folders for storing mail
  • messages list sorting
  • messages search, including search in messages' bodies
  • receiving and sending messages with attached files, MIME supporting
  • message's templates
  • encrypting and electronic signature support
  • spelling check
  • auto filters for incoming messages
  • auto-responder
Spelling check
While composing message, the system can check spelling and correct mistakes. Two dictionaries are used for the check - system's common and user defined, which can be edited by user.
Cryptography
Mail client offers opportunities for public-key cryptography - encrypted messages exchange and e-signatures usage. Diffie-Hellman/DSS (keys' size is from 1024/1024 to 1024/4096 bits) and CAST (key's length is 128 bits) algorithms are used. A comfortable interface for keys management is provided. The keys can be created in the system or imported (they can also be exported) from message, file, key-server or clipboard.
Address books
Address books are intended to store contact information and organize mailing lists:
  • Most of vCard format fields are supported
  • address books can be used in all system's components (mail client, calendar)
  • address book Everyone is managed automatically and stores information about all users of the system
  • there are unlimited number of address books and contacts for every user
  • rights for address book reading and editing can be delegated to other users or workgroups
  • data can be imported from csv, ldif and vCard formats (for example, from Outlook, Netscape Messenger)
  • a possibility to import AOL address books
  • automated creation of the record using messages' headers 'sender' (field From and ReplyTo) and 'receiver' (fields To and CC) in the mail client
  • a possibility to form mailing lists, including ones based on address books contacts
Calendar
Calendar is indented for planning of events, meetings, etc.:
  • daily, weekly, monthly events browsing
  • events categories, the list of which can be modified
  • personal and workgroup calendar conducting
  • personal and workgroup calendar viewing and modifying rights delegation to other users and workgroups
  • incoming events reminders
  • flexible search possibilities
  • PALM device synchronization (using HotSync application)
On-line messages
While working in the system, users can exchange short instant messages. Users, logged in the system, are visible to each other. Messages can be sent to single or multiple users, both logged in the system and offline (they can read these messages later). Messages history is stored.
Search system
Search system allows to perform search for specified sample in single sub-system (mail, calendar, address book) as well as complex search in all the information present in the system. The search is performed by automatically formed index, which results in high efficiency and speed. All the text data from all the sub-systems: messages' texts and headers, attached text files (of text/plain and text/html), calendar events and address books contacts take part in index forming. When performing extended search, user can specify fields and sections in which the search is to be performed and additional attributes (date, folder name, etc.). Complex search criteria can be set by combining AND and OR clauses.
New mail check agent
Is a Windows application, which works in background and periodically checks for new mail in WebMail. If new messages are available, this agent plays sound and changes icon in system tray. The agent can support several users profiles on one computer.
Admin's interface
Users and workgroups management is performed through admin's interface. With this interface users can be added and removed, users' password changed, size limit set for mailbox and etc. Not only "admin" user has access to administration interface, but also all members of "admins" group.
POP3 server
Own POP3 server authorizes users, using WebMail users list, which is independent from operating system users list.
Incoming mail processing
Mail, coming to the local server, can be put in database, bypassing system spool. This considerably increases speed of message processing for WebMail user. Own POP3 server can work directly with this database. Also, a tool exists, which allows admin to manage users' local spools. Admin can get information about spool's size, number of messages in the spool. Correspondence can be removed from spool, filtered by date.
Security
Protected SSL connection can be used to connect to the server. Sessions are also supported; sessions' identifiers are passed using Cookie. Restriction can be set on the number of login attempts with incorrect login/password. Period of password validity can be limited. Although HTML format messages are allowed, all potentially dangerous content is removed from them. Besides, WebMail can work jointly with AVP anti-virus mail check system.
Data backup and restore
Utilities for regular reserve coping and for DB recovery from reserve copy are implemented.
Service utilities
Service utilities are intended to help system's admin:
  • the utility importing OS users to WebMail
  • the utility checking DB's logical integrity
